An Often Overlooked Marketing "Secret!"

There are a lot of folks propounding "secrets" on how to market your website effectively online. Many of these have to do with perfectly valid and sound marketing strategies, such as finding a niche, publishing your own newsletter, auto-responder follow ups, and so on. But there is one other thing, something much more basic; it is as important as all the others put together. Also, unfortunately, it is the most often overlooked.

It is "passion!" You must love what you do. It really is that simple.

This involves something at a much deeper level, and that is far more effective than any other marketing tool or process. Remember, marketing is not a battle of products, but of perceptions. And how people perceive your product has everything to do with your passion, joy, and happiness.

If people perceive that doing business with you has an implicit added value, especially when compared to your competitors, you will often end up with more than a mere sale; you will have earned their confidence (along with their repeat and referral business) as a result.

The most effective way to communicate this added value is through the genuine, sincere, and passionate zest you have for what you do. People have a tendency to gravitate toward other people who love what they do -- their enthusiasm, charisma, and authentic desire to serve others are instantly communicated through their actions and particularly their marketing efforts.

Sadly, however, the Internet is filled with way too many people who jump into business for one sole purpose -- to make money. They are so focused on the bottom line that they fail to enjoy the process.

Confucius said: "Do what you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life."

Well folks, there you have it...the greatest marketing secret of all. It's to do what you love or love what you do. As Jim Rohn once said, "If you don't like where you are, then change it! You're not a tree." Doing what one loves is fundamental to the marketing process.

Just ask yourself -- when you deal with two people competing for your business (such as two Internet marketers offering the same product), and one of them obviously has the "fire in her belly" (a genuine passion for what she does), are you not much more anxious to do business with that person than the other? How much more believable and credible is she compared to the other? And most important, how much more implied value does she bring to the table than the other?

Enough said. People who love what they do generate more, and better, "word-of-mouth." They communicate in subtle ways that they are experts, that they are interested more in your needs than your money, and that they will go out of their way to please you.

Internet entrepreneurial fervor remains on the increase, and that's good. But the resulting ultra-competitive nature of the online marketplace in turn demands more uniqueness, more competitive value, more specialization, and greater customer service. But if you love what you do, your passion will intrinsically communicate ALL those things.

When most people jump into an online business, they set up businesses that give them no sense of purpose. They attempt only to earn a living, and they do so with retirement (or financial independence) in mind, anxiously anticipating those years when they will finally start to enjoy their lives. The thing is, of course, the future is guaranteed to no one. The key is to enjoy life now. If you do what you love as well as focus on a business you enjoy, you will not only make money as a natural by-product, but also enjoy much peace and happiness.

Ultimately, if you do what you love you will naturally attract more business by the sheer fact that your passion is also communicating to others that you are offering the best solution to their problems. Why? You are offering them the best you have...YOU!
